Problem is, it takes skill and time to craft a winning sales funnel. Most people don’t know what actually makes a good sales funnel. Or maybe they do have some idea, and they probably have set up a sales funnel, but it just won’t convert, because they still miss out on certain information.
In truth, many of the best-selling ‘How to Make Money Online’ type of info-products didn’t tell you the whole picture, even the ones that you have personally bought in the past.
Well, no wonder so many people are still in the blue.
So how does a converting sales funnel look like? Which part of a sales funnel are you still missing? Well, no more guessing around, my friend, because you’re about to find out.
7 ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF CONVERTING AFFILIATE SALES FUNNELS
Crafting a winning sales funnel is a skill every online marketer should learn, because the more effective your funnel is, the more money you make, period.
Eventually, there is no one ‘right’ way to build a sales funnel, and to be honest, even the top marketers don’t have a common template for their sales funnel. But I personally find that, as an affiliate, the 7 components below are the prerequisite to an affiliate sales funnel. They might even inspire you to improve your own existing funnels.
Let’s just hop on to see what the ‘fuss’ is all about.
COMPONENT #1 – SQUEEZE PAGE
This is a sample of my own squeeze page. Not bad, right?
The key to a converting squeeze page is simplicity. Remember that a squeeze page’s sole mission is to collect email address. You don’t want to distract people’s attention away from your message.
Keep it simple.
A headline, a sub-headline, an image of a freebie you’re offering, and an autoresponder form are the only four things you need. No security certificates, no fancy layout, and not even a name field!
I personally use a WordPress plugin called the Epic Squeeze Pro to create beautiful, eye-popping squeeze pages like the one above.
Although you can just easily create a simple squeeze page using a HTML editor, this plugin saves you so much time – I created the one above in 3 minutes flat! – and it gives you other cool features that you can’t create with just HTML codes.
But you can certainly get away with a HTML editor. Download a free squeeze page template by Mike Cowles here.
COMPONENT #2 – THANK YOU PAGE
I know, at this point most people will be like: “Bloody hell! I thought it should go directly to our affiliate sales page?”
To be honest, there’s no right or wrong answer. But here’s the thing. The majority of internet marketers are being told to link directly to their affiliates sales page, and so they do exactly as they are told.
But since everyone is now doing the same thing, it is almost predictable for your target audience to see a sales page right after a squeeze page. Nowadays, for me, it feels like I’m being forced to see the sales page.
Nobody likes to be forced, especially being forced to squeeze some dollars out of your credit cards. You need more subtlety in marketing your products, and sometimes you just have to let people make their own decisions.
To achieve this, in a thank you page you should make your new subscribers feel at home first, before you gently guide them to click the link at the bottom, which is, of course, your affiliate link. Make your new subscribers feel like it’s their own decision to be redirected to your affiliate sales page.
COMPONENT #3 – DOWNLOAD PAGE
Yes, you can. The screenshot above is just a template, my friend.
A lot of marketers nowadays also leverage their download pages as their Click Banking asset.
Nope, it doesn’t have anything to do with Clickbank, in case you don’t know what Click Banking is. Click Banking, in short, is a great strategy to double your result from your list-building effort, and it is now getting more and more popular.
I wish I can blabber more about click banking for you here, but I think you can just read this post about click banking.
Oh, don’t forget to set up a Welcome Email in your Autoresponder that includes the link to your download page!
COMPONENT #4 – AUTORESPONDER SEQUENCE
So you’ve build yourself a list. Now what?
I’m just going to quote Mark Tandan right here:
The money is in the list? I say BS on that! The money is in WHAT YOU DO with your list.
After someone opts-in, the next step is to convert that new subscriber into a buyer. 90% of that job is done through your email marketing effort. I daresay that your autoresponder sequence is the most important piece in your entire funnel. If you have a strong autoresponder sequence, your subscribers will eventually buy from you, again and again.
The key is to provide enough value in your emails, for free, so that your subscribers will grow to know, like, and trust you.
You need to know what they need, what their problems and what their desires are. Then you come to them with your emails to solve their problems. Again, for free.
I know that for some of you who read this, you might be in a difficult financial situation, and I can totally relate when you start thinking, “Do I really need to give so much for free?”
However, to be successful in your business, you must put others before yourself, before they do business with you.
Think about great marketers like Matt Bacak, Ross Goldberg, Neil Patel, Charlie Page, Lee Murray, and Mike Cowles. All of them are givers of great value, at least in my opinion. That’s why people stick around them and buy their products.
Answer to people’s need, solve their problems, and you will find yourself greatly rewarded.
COMPONENT #5 – PRESELL PAGE
Presell page is the one and only way for you to build a BUYER’S LIST as an affiliate – thus the title of this post. (I don’t know whether most people know about this method, but I dare to hazard a guess that they don’t.)
I’ve always wondered about how to build a buyer’s list as an affiliate, because that is a privilege only for product creators and vendors, their new buyers can be automatically added to a separate list upon purchase, and removed from their ‘tire-kickers’ list. But if you are an affiliate, then how in the world are you gonna build your own buyer’s list?
There’s no way to do that if you’re promoting a product from WarriorPlus or ClickBank. At least there’s no way to automate it.
I was in the blue for quite a while. I didn’t give up though, and I finally stumbled upon a solution.
Here’s how you do it: You tell your subscribers that you’re going to throw in some bonuses if they buy the product that you’re offering. Then ask them to email you with their receipt of purchase, so that you can give them access to your bonuses.
That’s why you need a presell page, so that you can do all that in one page. Get it, my friend?

COMPONENT #6 – BONUS ACCESS OPTIN FORM
So, your subscriber made a purchase with you. Congratulations! But just hang on for a minute, because your job isn’t quite done.
You still have to setup a way for your buyers to hop onto your buyer’s list, right? And not to mention, you still have to deliver your bonuses.
First thing first, go to your autoresponder, and setup a new buyer’s list. Just read this post if you need help with the setup.
Now, you need to create an opt-in page that looks somewhat like this:
I’m sure you’re wondering what we’re gonna do with this page.
Simple. If your subscribers make a purchase through you, they will email you their receipt, as explained above. After confirming their purchase, you simply send them an email with the link of this new opt-in page.
Once they opt-in, they will get access to your bonuses, and they will also be added to your new buyer’s list!
See, magic! 😉
This should be self explanatory. After your new buyers re-enter their new email addresses, they will be redirected to this page and download all their goodies and bonuses.
Oh, BTW, if you think the download page above looks boring, I find recently this kind of download page design on the right (click to enlarge) is starting to get more popular among the top marketers!
Phew! We’re here, and now you know about the 7 essential components of converting sales funnels. If you are about to build a sales funnel, I hope this post can be your guide. Or if you have had a sales funnel, hopefully you can use this post to improve your existing funnel.
If you’re just getting started, I hope that you don’t get overwhelmed with this information. As I said above, building sales funnel takes time, and it’s a skill that will pay you a huge reward in the end!
